After an extremly successful HD2900XT launch in 2007, Extreme PC was recognized as the number one company provider of the fastest ATI based GPUs in the world. We successfuly customized the HD2900XTs, and we have done just the same with the new HD3800 series. We wouldn't want to disappoint our loyal customers by just selling stock HD3800 GPUs.
Thanks to a VERY close collaboration with AMD and Diamond Multimedia, we have came up with much better performing HD3850 and HD3870 series GPUs. By studying the new 55mm variants provided by AMD back in early October, we noticed that the stock cooler is very well designed and quite efficient. However, we found ATI engineers opted for silent operation, by sacrificing the core speed, setting it to only 775Mhz. Close thermal analysis of the GPUs allowed us to crank up the core and DDR4 memory speeds. We adjusted the cooler's fan RPMs on bios level to compensate for the extra heat generated by the GPU. This more aggressive fan control allows us to have LOWER core temperatures than stock GPU at 10% faster cooler fan speeds. Even at 10% fan speed boost this new AMAZING HD3870 Heat-Piped cooler is still VERY QUIET!
The fan control we came up with is very precise, completely linear and changes fan's RPMs on 1 degree Celsius basis. In our opinion, this is most advanced and efficient way to cool the GPU and it also translates into very smooth transition in fan speeds. When you exit your favorite 3D game, the GPUs fan will gradually start slowing down to a complete 2D silent mode like a turbine that was just turned off. It's a really cool acoustic effect and if your CPU cooling fan is quiet enough, you will get to hear it. That's how quiet and very effective our cooling profile is.
Extreme PC HD3870 Extreme MAXXX Edition Highlights - New Heatpiped cooler with much larger fan and all copper base that covers DDR4 as well. - New rev 4 Bios - Super quiet operation even at 100% GPU load during gaming! We love the new cooler! - Sub 75 Deg C load temps (stock any brand 3870 bios runs at 775Mhz @ 85C (load) or even higher) - Unlocked GPU Bios all the way to 1000Mhz Core - You could call it: HD3870 Black Box Edition - Fastest and coolest running ATI Quad Capable CrossFireX™ GPU on the market. Period. - Rock Stable Cool running GPU core for ATI OVERDRIVE fun - Cooler running GPU core means more overclocking headroom - Per 1 degree Celsius GPU Fan operation - in real time - Longer GPU life due to lower operating temperatures - Completely SILENT 2D mode windows operation! Extreme PC HD3870 series variants:
1. Extreme PC Radeon HD3870 Extreme MAXXX Edition 850Mhz Core | 512MB 2400Mhz DDR4 We developed this variant after moving to the new super efficient cooler which allows more speed without sacrificing the acoustics. Still extremly quiet operation that really packs a punch and matches and surpasses 8800GT. In Crossfire mode this card is a MONSTER especially in the 3 and 4 way Crossfire-X modes. Fan RPMs are now just 10% higher then stock unit. This is the FASTEST TO DATE commercially available HD3870 GPU on the market - It's very popular with the ATI enthusiasts.
2. Extreme PC Radeon HD3870 Extreme XXX Edition 820Mhz Core | 512MB 2400Mhz DDR4 This variant is our best seller and thanks to the new heat-piped cooler it is now extremely quiet even in 3D operation at 100% load. Fan RPMs are now just 10% higher then stock unit.
3. Extreme PC Radeon HD3870 Extreme Edition 800Mhz Core | 512MB 2300Mhz DDR4 This variant is much faster then the stock GPU and it includes our custom fan RPM control at a reduced level. Fan RPMs are 5% higher then stock unit.
4. Non-modified Diamond variant of the HD3870 - stock 777Mhz core and 2250MHz DDR4 memery speed.
Extreme PC HD3850 series variants:
1. Extreme PC Radeon HD3850 Extreme Edition 740Mhz Core | 256MB 1700Mhz DDR3 We developed this variant to specifically battle the 8600GTS and all other mid range Nvidia offerings. This is a monster CROSSFIRE GPU of choice when it comes to best bang for the buck even in 3 and 4 way CROSSFIRE-X configuration.
2. Non-modified Diamond variant of the HD3850 - stock 670Mhz core and 1660MHz DDR3 memery speed
Our cooler is capable of much higher MAXXX Core speeds under 75C at load!!! Ask any overclocker and they will tell you - "There is no substitue for large chunk of heat-piped copper" Our customers report over 900mhz OC levels on our forums! =)
The benchmarks shown below stand up to the entire Nvidia 8800 line up including the new 8800GT. These are provided by a 3rd party websites - not us.
The following benchmarks were done at stock 775Mhz Core speeds. Only two HD3870 - 2-way CrossFire setup was used to generate the 3D scores listed below. We can't reveal the 4-way benchmarks yet due to NDA but we're pretty sure you guys can image the difference. Note, that our HD3870s run at 820MHz core so the 2-way Crossfire scores below would be even higher. Keep in mind that NVIDIA 8800GT will never be able to do 3-way or 4-way SLI (it only has one SLI connector). That's where AMD's CROSSFIRE-X technology is far superior to NVIDIA's.
8800GT SLI vs. HD 3870 CrossFire
More benchmarks can be found at this link: http://en.expreview.com/?p=53&page=4 The extra 8800GT advantage in some tests you see above disappears with our 820Mhz Super Clocked HD3870 variant.
Crysis is a science fiction first-person shooter computer game that was developed by Crytek, and published by Electronic Arts. It was released on November 15, 2007 in the United States. The game is based off the CryENGINE2 game engine, which is an extended version of CryENGINE, the game engine behind the hit game Far Cry a number of years ago.
